Understanding the Biblical Text
Applying Biblical Hermeneutics
The Bible is God's inspired Word, but understanding its message requires faithful interpretation. This course introduces students to the science and art of biblical hermeneutics, equipping them with the essential principles needed to correctly interpret Scripture within its historical, grammatical, literary, and theological contexts. Students will discover how to move beyond personal opinions and develop an interpretation that remains faithful to the author's original intent while applying biblical truth to today's world.
Throughout the course, students will examine the importance of context, language, genre, symbolism, prophecy, and biblical theology. They will learn how to interpret narratives, poetry, wisdom literature, prophecy, parables, epistles, and apocalyptic literature without falling into common interpretive errors. Practical exercises will help students analyze biblical passages using sound exegetical methods while avoiding misuse of Scripture.
By the completion of this course, students will possess the confidence to study the Bible independently, prepare biblically accurate sermons and Bible studies, answer difficult interpretive questions, and teach God's Word with clarity, integrity, and authority. This course serves as one of the foundational subjects for every future Bible and theology course within Shema Bible Institute.
